Love That Java

Ah, coffee. Just mentioning the dark elixir brings a knowing smile to people's faces. Nothing beats the aroma of a good cup of coffee as you wake up in the morning or need a little pick-me-up in the afternoon.

Traveling gives you the perfect opportunity to try different types of coffee in various preparations. Savor a dark, sweet tinto in Bogotá; a foamy cappuccino with a side of good conversation in Buenos Aires; or a cafe sua da, Vietnamese-style coffee served with condensed milk, in San Francisco.

There are ways of enjoying coffee that don't involve the typical hot drink. An entire industry has developed around iced coffees, including serving them over crushed ice, mocha-flavored and as shakes. While dining out, look for coffee-inspired savory dishes and desserts—like a juicy steak rubbed with coffee and ancho chile or a tiramisu. Don't forget a mixed coffee drink when you're out in the town; an Irish coffee is a great way to end the day.

For those who just can't get enough of this universal bean, coffee tours in Costa Rica and Guatemala feature educational visits to coffee plantations and tastings—and often an eco-adventure to pristine natural surroundings like the Poás Volcano and Los Tarrales nature preserve.

Discover new ways to appreciate coffee as you sit around a table with a few good friends, making great memories.

Enjoy!
