Julie & Julia
Meryl Streep, Amy Adams

Julie (Adams) is a clerical worker who, in the course of one year, attempts to prepare 524 recipes included in a book written by Julia Child (masterfully played by Streep), a 1950s author who introduced French cooking techniques to the American mainstream. Julia and Julie’s real stories (the film is based on the latter’s book) intertwine in this enjoyable film that earned Streep a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical.

Public Enemies
Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard

John Dillinger (Depp) was the first “Public Enemy Number One” in the U.S.—a captivating and clever Great Depression-era bank thief who was able to challenge the agents of a government agency that would later become the FBI. Relentlessly pursued by agent Mevis Purvis (Bale), Dillinger falls in love with Billie (Cotillard), the only woman capable of winning him over. With nods to classic gangster films, Public Enemies is a nonstop action modern flick that channels the best of the 1940s film style.
