By Igor Galo

After successfully finishing her Gran City Pop Tour, which took her all over the Americas and the U.S., the "Golden Girl" is preparing for the next stage in her life with new responsibilities. But having a baby won't be the only big change for this tireless artist. She's also planning to launch a foundation to help sick children.

With nine albums to her name, Paulina Rubio has become one of the few pop artists who are successful on stage and in the record stores. Her ability to reinvent herself and her understanding of show business have brought her much success, as well as the loyalty of millions of fans in the United States, Latin America and Europe. Committed to improving the world, she used recyclable and recycled materials on the stage during her tour in Spain this past spring. During Paulina and Friends, her Miami concert on June 19, she raised funds to benefit The Lili Claire Foundation.

At 39, Rubio's biggest challenge will be motherhood. After two decades on the stage, it's time for her to start a family. However, she plans to continue traveling as usual. Planes are her second home, and it's always been that way; as a girl, she would go on tours and filmings with her mother, actress Susana Dosamantes.

Q.How's your pregnancy going?
I feel very well. I'm lucky to be fine, euphoric and full of energy. The doctor has told me to lead a normal life, and my life is singing, dancing and doing concerts. That's why I'm going to enjoy the last concerts even more before taking a break. This is a special time for me and this pregnancy will have much to do with that.

Q.How will you organize your personal and professional schedule now?
I'm a very active woman, who always has a complicated schedule and tries to keep her life well organized. I divide my day between my house, working out, practice, the physical therapist and my classes, with time for concerts and also writing and composing songs. I will get organized little by little once the baby arrives. I figure I will have to adapt to the new Paulina.

Q.Your latest album continues playing a year later. "Para ti," the third single (which you also wrote), is a hit.
Gran City Pop has fortunately been on the radio everywhere. "Causa y efecto" became number one; "Ni rosas ni juguetes" also. In the Billboard awards, they gave me the Top Latin Pop award. And the third single, "Para ti," which is more disco and tecno, is getting a lot of play. This summer I think it will be much stronger everywhere. This makes me proud. I'm ready to compete. They can't get rid of me.

Q.What's the secret to your success after nine albums?
My audience has really made it work. It has to do with melody and lyrics and connecting with people. The fans sing it day and night, at the gym, weddings, graduations; my music is popular. That's what pop means, and I like it.

Q.In addition to your songs, you've recorded successful duets with others like Miguel Bosé and Pitbull.
I like collaborations because it's nice to share, since they have a different sound. It enriches me. I would like to record with Mika. I'm planning to write a song with my friend Nelly Furtado, and there are other surprises that haven't been confirmed yet.

Q.Your music is also successful online. Do you listen to digital music?
I use iTunes. It's very interesting because it brings you closer to the music. You don't need to be attached to a computer. You can take the music along to the office, to school and also turn downloads into ring tones.

Q.How many songs do you have on iTunes?
I have several, but I don't change them too much. When I download something I leave it for a while. I'm very loyal to a fragrance, a song, the color of a room… I like long phases; with me, things last.

Q.You've spent the year traveling: Latin America, the United States, Spain… Do you live on planes? What will you do once you're a mother?
I was born like that. My mom never left us at home; she would travel the world making movies and would take us with her. We lived on the set, and my grandma would help us. It's part of my life. We've been nomads since forever, and my baby will also be like that. Like Jennifer [Lopez] and Mark's [Anthony] babies. I'm not going to leave them at home.

Q.Have you learned to pack light? Do you pack your own suitcases or does someone do it for you?
My suitcases are large when I'm on tour. When I go on a personal trip for the weekend, which is unusual, I pack something small and compact on my own. But when I'm on tour, logically, there's much more luggage, since we bring outfits for the press, the red carpet, acting… And of course, a team packs it for me. (Laughs.)
